Art Market @ Campus Center: September 28th and 30th

This month's art markets are scheduled for next week on September 28th and September 30th. We will be meeting at the campus center at 12:00 and will probably be there until 1:30-2:00. If you have class, don't worry, just swing by afterwards during the normal lunch period :) Even if you don't have anything to sell this month, stop by and hang out. It really helps to have club members support the art markets, so just stopping by for a while means a lot!
If you have anything that you would like to sell just bring it along and we'll put it on the table! I've found it helps to have price tags or a small sign with the prices of whatever you are selling.

Anything artistic/creative works for the art market. In the past, items like hand painted t-shirts, hand made jewelry, painted cigar keepsake boxes, hand painted tote bags, small drawings and paintings, painted glass candle holders, copy books with collages, hand made picture frames, and pins.
Think outside of the box, be creative, recycle things you already have to make some really cool items.

The art markets help raise funds for the club and put money in your pocket as well! Money collected at the markets is split 70%-30%. With 70% going to the seller, and 30% going to the club's funds. This money will be used for upcoming events such as the New York trip to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) as well as the dance that is being co-sponsored by the art club and drama club.

Welcome Back Social

Thank you to everyone who attended the social today!

It was a lot of fun and great way to get to meet new club members and catch up with old club members.
I know that there were a lot of things planned for today, including mass during lunch, so there were a few people who couldn't attend.  For those of you that couldn't make it, here's a recap of the meeting:

Wednesday's at 12:30 were decided to be meeting time this semester. Meetings will only be once a month, and you'll be updated about that here on the blog, as well as through email, and the facebook group page.

We discussed the Flea Market on Saturday, September 25th. We are looking for suggestions for an activity to sponsor for the flea market. We will be provided a table to sell arts and crafts- this is a great opportunity for you to make some extra money as well as raise money for club events. I'll be sending out more info about the Flea Market next week!

Art markets will take place in the Campus Center and will be another opportunity to sell art and crafts. The money raised from these arts and crafts will be divided 70% to the person selling the product and 30% to the art club funds. A lot of money was raised last year. We should make it a goal to match or exceed what was raised last year. The money we raise will allow us to go on trips, sponsor fun events, and put money towards things like club t-shirts.

Gallery trips to Center City on First Fridays were discussed. This is a great way to fill that gallery paper requirement for those of you taking art classes right now. You can get into various galleries for free and its an amazing night out. They have so many things going on during first Friday, its definitely an event you don't want to miss! If you're interested in going to the next one- October 1st- a few of us will be going, feel free to come with us and hang out :)

We discussed a trip to New York to see the Museum of Modern Art in early November. Depending on how much money we raise at the flea market and at art markets, we could partially or completely cover the cost of the trip. We decided that we will travel to New York by train. There will be more information on this soon :)

Christian discussed collaborating with the drama clubs on poster designs for play, as well as set designs. We are also talking about co-sponsoring a dance with the drama club which would be another fund raiser. Lets get creative and think of some unique and fun ways to decorate for the dance!

Danielle suggested that we have art critiques for those in studio classes or those who are just working on their personal artwork who would like some input and suggestions from their peers.

We are also interested in having club members step up with their own project or idea for the club that they can run. We want the club to be managed though a group effort and we want everyone to have a voice. So if you have a cool idea for the club, share it!

Finally, we talked about different volunteer opportunities. We might have opportunities to volunteer for plays, creating set designs. If we can, I will be sure to get everyone information on that as soon as possible. Another idea, Pinch Pots for Puppies, would be an opportunity to work with ceramics and create pinch pots that will be sold to raise money for a local animal shelter. This is a fun opportunity to learn about/be creative with ceramics and help out a good cause. We are interested in finding more opportunities to give back and are always open to suggestions!

The next meeting will be in early October, however there may be events planned for the club within the next few weeks. We'll be in touch about different opportunities as they come up! Thanks guys!

101 Way to Get Involved!

Come support the HFU Art Association at "101 Ways to Involved" next Tuesday, September 7th!

We will have a table set up for people to check out in the ETC (Education and Technology Center) and will briefly be speaking about our club and what we do :) This event is geared towards showing new students the opportunities they have to get involved in campus activities and events. If anyone who was in the art club last year would like to stop by the ETC at lunch to support the club, it would be appreciated!
